I believe the Neveda took 2 direct hits from the nuke where the nuke hit the deck then exploded. The first one crippled it so it couldn't move anymore. The second destroyed it.
Considering neither of the atomic bombs during the test made direct contact with the ships. You can't call that a "Direct Hit", Nor could you say it couldn't move anymore since the tests ships were never planned on being used again anyway. One bomb was detonated near the middle of the test formation in the air, the other underwater. None directly hit any ship. The ships were damaged by the shockwaves and became highly radioactive. In a real battle, an atomic bomb detonated near a battleship would end it. The minor shockwave damage would be magnified by the entire crew being seriously crippled or dead from the immediant exposer to radiation. The ship would be abandoned since it wouldn't be safe to board and would eventually sink if not scuttled.
Why do you think I said "I BELIEVE"? I wasn't 100% sure on this. |
