Game direction?
Honestly, the most fun I've had with this game was back when it first launched out of beta, when there was only a trade system and no pay for anything. Every battle had a huge variety of ships, and it took literally years to grind to a BB4 or CV4.
That's the major problem with level-grinding games . . . after enough years, everyone has top-tier everything and it gets boring, and new players get hammered every game in low-level stuff and quit. Now it's even worse, I started a new account in September when steam launched, and already have BB5's in 3 nations, and haven't played all that many hours to get there. It was a lot of fun early on, when there were tons of lower-level players in a lot of rooms, but that changed quickly with the speed-leveling.
Now every game is dominated by top-tier ships, and I've seen too many of them one-shot every low-level FF & DD in sight before they'll engage other BB's clearly within their range. Even with a lower level BB, your options seem to be rush in and try to land a hit or two before getting swatted, or hang back and hope someone on the other side screws up and you get in a shot or two before being swatted . . .I know that's just how it goes, but still, not much fun game after game, so people stop playing. Events get new players, and that's good for a while, but soon even they speed-level up to top-tier ships and we're stuck again with the same cycle.
I think having blitz rooms actively open and filling with newer and low-level players that get a chance to actually play before getting 1-shotted, having at least a points and credits trade or donation system to help newer players with their ships and crew classing/leveling, and mods and GM's actually holding events in rooms might help . . . |
