I was not joking when I said the best guns are the single 7"s.
It may be helpful if you tell us more information about your gunners so that we can give you suggestions on the best guns for YOU, other than the best guns for DDX as a ship.

Many years ago I had fun rocking a skele crew and dual 4" guns and packing on the belt.  Could bounce most everything at the DD level, just had to get in close and dodge torps.  But this was also many years ago.
